Upcoming Events, New Additions to Our Websites, and Good News
Good evening to everyone:
Just want to take a few moments and remind everyone of several upcoming events and let you know of some new additions to our website as well as some good news.
First, I wanted to let everyone know, there are 9 seats still available on the Rocky Top Tours Bus for the Tour of Washington County, Tennessee on Saturday, September 26th from 8 am to 4 pm. For more information click here.
Next on our list of events is the Storytelling Genealogy Help Day. By request, the JGS will host a Genealogy Help Day of Monday, October 5th at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library, 200 Sabin Drive, Jonesborough. If anyone would like to attend, they must RSVP by email Gene Hurdt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Another event is the October Help Night. It is scheduled for October 8th from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library, 200 Sabin Drive, Jonesborough. This event is FREE for anyone who maybe interested.
Our last event for October is the Community and Family Tales Forum. This event will be an open forum for guest who would like to speak on their community, family, or research topic they have been working on. The event will start at 9:30 am at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library, 200 Sabin Drive, Jonesborough. The JGS will have refreshments. The Tales will be recorded and preserved in the Library’s Genealogy-History Center. Please sign up with your topic to Chad Bailey at email@example.com ASAP. We’d love to have time for everyone, so please let us know so we can arrange a schedule of participants. This will be our last Genealogy Day for the year.
On our calendar for November is the November Help Night on Thursday, November 12th from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library, 200 Sabin Drive, Jonesborough.
Our Thanksgiving-Christmas Get-Together is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 14th at Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant. Time will be announced as soon as possible.
In December, the society will host its last Help Night on Thursday, December 10th from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library, 200 Sabin Drive, Jonesborough.
In December, the Society will also decorate a Christmas Tree for the Historic Jonesborough Visitor Center during the first week of December. If you have any ideas, or decorations to contribute, please let Chad Fred Bailey know (email firstname.lastname@example.org). Also, if we have enough participants, the society will have a float in the Jonesborough Christmas Parade. If you would like to participate please let Chad Fred Bailey know. Also if you have any ideas on how to decorate our float send us your feedback!

NEW ADDITIONS- WEBSITE
Three Jonesborough Records will be added to our website under the Members Only Section of our site, as time allows. These three are Vol. 1 no. 3 and 4 and Vol. 2 no. 1. These newsletters were found in a collection at the Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and will be scanned and available for JGS Members.
Also, the Surname Register will be updated as soon as possible as new members join and inactive members have been dropped from our membership rolls.
The Early Settlers of Washington County, Tennessee: (pre) 1768-1777 book has won yet another award. The Washington County Historical Association has notified the JGS that our book has won the Awards of Merit for projects and publications. The Award will be given at the WCHA Annual Banquet on Friday, October 16th at 6:30 pm at the Historic Jonesborough Visitor Center. If you would like to attend, reserve your seat by contacting Gene Hurdt, Treasurer, WCHA at email@example.com.
At anytime, if a member has any new ideas, feedback, or suggestions, please let a JGS Director or Officer Know! We will also begin looking toward next year as a board of directors soon and we are always looking for programs and projects dear to our members hearts!
