June 25th- Genealogy Day
The Jonesborough Genealogical Society will host its June Genealogy Day on Saturday, June 25th at 9:30 am at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library. July 1st and 2nd- Jonesborough Days
The Jonesborough Genealogical Society will have a tent on Friday, July 1st and Saturday, July 2nd in the yard of the Central Christian Church, Corner of Fox and Main Streets, during Jonesborough Days to sell our books and merchandise. JGS Members are encouraged to sign up on Saturday, June 25th at the Genealogy Day or contact Chad Bailey for times at email@example.com.
July 14th- Genealogy Help Night
The Jonesborough Genealogical Society will host a Genealogy Help Night on Thursday July 14, 2016, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Washington County-Jonesborough Library.
July 23rd- 2nd Annual Tour of Historic Washington County, TN
Mark your calendars for a fun event exploring Washington County’s beauty! On Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 8 am to 4 pm, the Jonesborough Genealogical Society will host its second Tour of Washington County, Tennessee, where participants will see historic sites and sounds across our amazing county. Elaine Cantrell, JGS Director, and Chad Bailey, first Vice President and Projects Coordinator, will be the tour guides across an eight hour tour route from Jonesborough to Johnson City to Watauga to Austin Springs and Boreing’s Chapel to Oak Grove and Boones Creek and so many places in between. Creeks, cemeteries, homes, historic sites, and so much more will be pointed out along the way. Stories will be told and fun will be had! Much of this tour will be based on Elaine Cantrell’s historic survey of Washington County, Tennessee, which contains 24 volumes of photographs of sites and sounds of Washington County. This tour will begin at the Jonesborough Visitor Center, 117 Boone Street, Jonesborough, at 8 am. Please arrive at the Jonesborough Visitor Center at least 15 minutes prior to loading. Parking will be available on a first come first serve basis at the Jonesborough Visitor Center in the left parking lot closest to the library and a secondary parking lot is behind the Visitor Center closest to the Jonesborough Post Office. The bus will be loaded and leave promptly at 8 am. Participants will take take a tour of the St. John Property, which includes the St. John House, Dungan House, St. John-Dungan Cemetery, and the St. John’s Milling Company, 3191 Watauga Road, Watuaga, as well as a two-hour living history tour in the year 1792, at Rocky Mount Historic Site, 200 Hyder Hill Road, Piney Flats. Lunch will be provided at Winged Deer Park, where participants will tour the Robert Young, Sr. Cabin, as well as view the J. Norton Arney House and Massengill Monument on the grounds. The stop will also include a stop at New Bethel Presbyterian Church and Cemetery and Boone Dam. Other stops as time allows as well as weather on day of tour.
Cost will be $45 for JGS members and $50 for the public.Registration is now open. Please download and print the tour packet and fill out the forms and return to the JGS with the payment for your tickets! Seats are limited!
